A video uploaded by Australian fitness influencer Trent Carter went viral after he publicly confronted an elderly Nepali couple outside a Kmart store, falsely accusing them of shoplifting. In the footage, Carter can be seen filming the couple—who speak limited English—while questioning them and pointing at a packaged item that still had a spider security wrap attached, telling them they stole it and calling them “naughty, naughty.”
The entire confrontation stemmed from a simple misunderstanding over store security equipment. The item was legally purchased by their daughter-in-law, but because of a likely oversight by the cashier, the anti-theft spider wrap was never removed before they exited the store.

The video sparked massive outrage online once witnesses and the couple’s family stepped forward with receipts proving the item was paid for in full. Social media users heavily criticized Carter for harassing vulnerable, older individuals for online content without verifying the facts, highlighting the dangers of public shaming and reckless vigilante behavior.
