A single Powerball ticket sold in the state of Illinois has won the massive $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot, making it the largest Powerball prize awarded in 2026 and the eighth-largest jackpot in the game’s history. The winning ticket was purchased at a gas station in the city of Quincy, Illinois, officials announced following Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers drawn on August 12 were 4, 26, 66, 67, and 69, with the Powerball number 9. Lottery organizers said the jackpot had grown past the $1 billion mark after several consecutive drawings failed to produce a grand prize winner.

The lucky winner can choose between receiving the full $1.04 billion annuity prize paid over 29 years or taking a lump-sum cash payment of approximately $450.5 million before taxes. Officials noted that the jackpot run lasted 44 consecutive drawings since the last Powerball jackpot was won on May 2.

Several other players also won significant prizes in the drawing. A ticket sold in Massachusetts won $2 million, while tickets purchased in Arizona, California, Florida, and North Carolina each won $1 million by matching all five white balls. Following the jackpot win, the Powerball grand prize will reset to $20 million for the next drawing.

Powerball, which is played across 45 U.S. states and several territories, remains one of the most popular lottery games in the country. Despite the life-changing prizes, the odds of winning the jackpot remain extremely slim at approximately 1 in 292.2 million.
